This is a particular piece of work may have 'buried' her alive in the cess pit under the garage.

The rope is the only answer for such evil scum as far as I am concerned.

I agree, he should serve a full life term.

I understand that the police are now investigating the death of his first wife.
Police are now, apparently, opening an investigation into the death of his first wife.

I suppose that since chucking him into a cess-pit and closing the lid is out of the question, life must mean life - and no cushy privileges either. Sorry to sound so harsh, but it is a heinous crime - he put her pet dog in as well.
Lethal injection, spend the money on 3 meals a day and a roof over his head and access to education etc elsewhere.
This was in my hometown. He will get the only possible sentence for murder 'Life'. The judge also has to give a 'tariff' which is the minimum time until he can start the process of applying to the parole board. Once the tariff is announced we will see the usual outcry that the judge is an idiot and the sentence is too short.
what to a dog-killer ?
life .... deffo

found down a well ( like little tommy dell )
after a neighbour pointed out there was an old well in the garage they had missed ......

well well well - er - she must have said in an anonymised call to the boys
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_imprisonment_in_England_and_Wales#Whole_life_tariff
^^ Details of when a 'whole life ' sentence can be passed . The judge can only pass a 'whole life' tariff under the circumstances shown! So once again a judge does not have a free hand in it!
PP - I mentioned the dog because he must have done that out of sheer cruelty, there is no way that the dog could have hurt him.
thx jordy
I stand corrected

BUT - I think this is a straightforward murder and he should get life - going after him with the first wife is a bit of jimmy saville waster of money

but Ic annot say how police money is spent
Hang him. If not full life term preferably in a sewer.
He's been given 34 years.
AOG - //But as a sideline look at the happy photo of them both together and the lovely expensive house they lived in, one has got to ask why?

He and his sons could have lived a happy and comfortable life, together with the lovely Helen Bailey. //

You have no idea if she was 'lovely' or not!

The lovely house may not have been compensation for living with someone this man clearly did not love - and pictures don't tell the whole story by any means, as I am sure you know.
ummmm //Why do you say 'buried her alive' when it says in the bullet points that he smothered her? //

I understand the post mortem indicated that she was unconscious at the time he put her into the pit, so technically she was alive.
He should serve every day of those 34 years.
He'll be 90 when he gets out.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/feb/23/helen-bailey-murder-ian-stewart-jailed-years-killing-author

Ian Stewart jailed for at least 34 years

Stewart will now be 90 before he can apply for parole.
That sentence is acceptable I'm sure ?
Brilliant sentence, he'll probably die in jail ...
This happened less than 3/4 of a mile from my front door. I don't know the woman or her killer but I had seen them both around the town.
The tariff seems to fit the crime, I don't see any 'stupid soft judge' posts. He will be 90 before he can even start a parole application.
A further point, my eldests sons christian names are' Ian Stuart' we used to call him by his two names as we also have a cousin called Ian.
Now, that's karma..... doesn't help Helen Bailey's family much, as she's gone, but it is as good a result as they could wish for, the law being as it is.
