It's a raspberry bakewell cake.

My cake ended up in a heap on the floor, when the bottom fell out of my cake carrier :(

Trust me, just reread the OP and been reminded that there was no special occasion. Well any excuse for cake is a good one. Not sure I have a favourite, but Black Forest Gateaux is a contender, as is Xmas cake or any heavy on the dried fruit. But light spongy ones are great too.
