I tried to contact Microsoft but there is endless fiddle faddle in attempting to get a minor irritation dealt with. This is that Windows insists on displaying the date on its first page in the American style (i.e. month first). I think there`s supposed to be a way to change this but life`s too short to go in for all the messing about that seems to be requi

anyone think of a way to make Microsoft realise that it has British customers who do not want to be subjected to unnecessary and pointless Americanisms?

If you mean the date bottom right on the task bar, click on it, then click 'time and date settings' then 'region and language' then select United Kingdom
I think that's for other versions of Windows hc. On my desktop running Windows 10, you right click on the time/date on the bottom right of the bar at the bottom of the screen and choose the second option from the top in the menu which appears. You will then find all sorts of options to adjust the display format of the date and time.

Chris38: I think you are being a bit unfair to Microsoft. If you installed Windows 10 yourself you would have been given this option during setup, but if you just clicked on next or whatever then you would get the default - American settings. If you bought a computer with it already installed then it's the fault of whoever installed it, not Microsoft.
Vascop, I have W10 and the way I described worked. As does your way :)
sorry hc - apologies.

Same here, no problem at all to change it.
Thank so and so I happened across this question. I hate the American way and have changed it back. In reality first is the second then Minute then hour then day then week then month then year . Call me pedantic, cause I am.
type region and language in the search web and windows box
Actually the American way is not as daft as it sounds. We can say the first of May (1/5) or May the first (5/1).
