No- I keep my cards in my pocket but do have to put my phone on the table unless I keep my jacket on.
I'm intrigued as to what the thesis is.

Hello Fiction Factory,

As a student industrial design I am currently working on designing a chair that allows the user to place/store his/her bag within reach. Thank you for your answer.
I think ladies solved that years ago,you just hang it on the edge of the chair. If I think that's insecure I put it on the floor and stick one leg through the straps/handles.
my wife keeps in her handbag a tailor made hook attachment. It is like a 'C' shape with a hook at the bottom that just attaches to a table top.
Similar to this.

Hi, Fivos......I have a handbag hook. It clips onto the table and my bag then hangs close to my knee....off the floor and close by....

Moving about I have my bag across my body so my hands are free but the bag is accessible and safe.....x
Like Prudie, I tend to keep in on the floor with the strap hooked over one leg. I tend to always use shoulder bags than one with handles.
I do what Prudie does, but if I'm on a bench-type seat, I put my arm through the strap.
Depends on the set up really. If I can have it to the side of me, the longer shoulder strap allows that so it is still attached to me over my shoulder. I use an extra chair next to me in a coffee shop for this if there is one. As it's a longer over the shoulder strap though it can sit on my lap if there is room for it, moreso a coffee shop than restaurant though.

If I have to put my bag on the floor, such as in a restaurant I'd make sure the strap was secured by having the strap over my leg or my foot through the loop.

Thanks everyone for all the answers. About the 'c' hook: I've heard about it, but to be honest I've never ever in my life have seen anyone that was using this gadget. Maybe it's not very well known by my generation?
The hook is a lot more 'viable / cheap ' than buying special chairs .
Sorry, but I think your idea is a non starter.

@EDDIE51 Hello Eddie wel the full story behind it is a followed: I am currently following an internship in a company that designs and sells polymer coated furniture, the problem with these is that they are made up from coated foam so if you were to place a purse hook on it the coating would get damaged, that's why I'm creating a platform that can be combined with these coated parts and thus creating the possibility of letting the user hang his/her bag/purse on the metal platform.
I usually do as Prudie does, but it does depend where I'm eating. If I'm in a nice restaurant then I almost certainly have a clutch bag with me as opposed to a strapped handbag. This will still go on the floor but will be right under the table. In a more casual place like a pub then my bag will stay in contact with me constantly. I'd be very dubious about hanging it on a chair.
Best of luck and I wish you well. I suppose the 'bag hook' would not add to the cost of the chair so it could well be a sales point. I was thinking of places that have 'standard' chairs not wanting to pay to replace them , but it may well work as replacements when their current stock is at the end of it's life.
Whenever Im eating out either a pub or a cafe, as soon as i sit down I put my bag firmly between my feet, andI dont move it again until I get up to leave. It works fine for me, never had a problem.
