Why Are They So "mean"

Im watching the tv programme about Royal Navy School....

I understand the need for "order".... I was just wondering why all the screaming & balling... X

I'd hazard a guess that if you were in a battlefield and being shot at, you wouldn't need anyone to tell you. The bullets whizzing by your ears would be clue enough.
