'Adverts New'. Think that's old? I watched a film 'The Blue Lamp' (1949) and it featured 'New Scotland Yard' So my question is; How long has New Scotland Yard been 'New'?
Scotland Yard - named after an area of London once owned by the Scottish Kings - was established in 1829 at Whitehall Place. The HQ was moved to 'New Scotland Yard' in 1890, to premises on the Victoria Embankment. They moved again in 1967 to larger premises at Broadway in SW1, and this location retained the name 'New Scotland Yard'. So in both cases 'new' is really just part of the title, rather than an indication of recent developments.
