Is the warranty on a new car still valid if you take the car to another dealer for servicing. Assuming they use genuine parts etc

In theory, yes.

My attitude is that you've paid several thousand pounds for a new car; the extra that you pay for a couple of services from a main dealer is worth it to save any hassle if you have problems.
In some cases the service you get from an independent garage is far better than the dealer, if you decide to go that way make sure you insist they use the genuine filters fuel filters / Oil & get your book stamped, but in my opinion, don't use K.F.
Apart from having to use genuine parts I think you will find that they must also be VAT registered,( if my memory serves me well. ) The only problem with not using the main dealer is that IF you have problems with the car later on and from the service book they see that you have not used a main dealer, they will try and Wrangle their way out of any costs to them and try to pass the buck back.
bhj is spot on ...and the problems become compounded the higher the value of the car.If its a 10 grand car it may be worthwhile ..however if its a 100 grand car, dont even think about it.
my Kia Cee'd is a grey import serviced at independent garages. No quibbles about mending the gearbox under warranty. Only issue was it took over a month for the part to arrive from Korea even though the bloody thing was built in Slovakia
