Anyone got one of these pse ??? got a question for someone who knows how it works!

Here goes.....
To activate the timer the instruction book says turn the dial fully clockwise THEN turn it to the desired time. Am I correct in thinking that I have to turn it clockwise right round to the 120 minute mark then anti clockwise to the setting I want ?? I've used the thing four times like that and twice the machine had still been running after two hours even though I moved the timer to 40 minutes when starting it. The other two times it returned to the Off position. the washing has been dry on all four occasions! I am very confused!!!
