wind direction

having been given a weather vane for a Xmas present,does the arrow point in the direction of the wind or the direction from where it is coming from?

it points th way the wind is going, ie if it's blowing from east to west (an easterly wind) then it will point to the west ....... just as if it was very windy and you stood on a hill holding a long ribbon, it would blow to the west .... hope this helps.
