i'm going to costa rica on sat 19th feb and am trying to get hold of some local currency (colones). i'm in central london and have tried all the obvious places - central post office, thomas cook etc, but nowhere seems to have any. i'm already taking some US dollars, but want some colones aswell to pay for taxis from the airport, things like that. i could try at heathrow, but it'll be a rubbish rate and huge commission - any bright ideas?

I am 99% certain that you won't need anything other than US dollars. I am also fairly sure that you will not be able to get them (Colones) anywhere other than Costa Rica. I was there a few years ago and never saw the local currency.
I was there 18 months ago (admittedly only for a day) and everyone accepted US dollars no problem, but it was not easy to get change, so make sure you have loads of $1 bills to make the exact 'asking' price.
