It's my 30th bday in Sep 2010 as I don't really want to be in this country to celebrate/comiserate I was wanting to book a special holiday for me and my other half (I know I'm planning ahead but I need time to save up!). All I'd want to do is lie on a gorgeous beach all day with perhaps a couple of tours (interesting history/beautiful scenery/wildlife) then enjoy good food in the evening with a couple of drinks and a little entertainment. I was hoping to spend no more than 2.5k on the hol itself, We are in the north east so appreciate we will prob have to fly from Manchester, Any suggestions/comments would be much appreciated!! TIA

You should worry, I am 59 and it is my 60th this September.

My wife asked what I wanted to do and in a gruff voice said "nothing, I dont even want to be in the country".

So you have 30 years on me so make the most of them.
September's probably a little late to do the Mamma Mia thing on a Greek island, but how about the Canaries or an Egyptian resort like Sharm or Hurghada? Or Florida? (But bear in mind it's the Atlantic hurricane season.)

I've sort of talked myself into Mexico now, however I really wanted to go on or around my birthday in Sep but believe this is hurricane season and knowing my luck I'd be hit!
it is hurricane season, but the Caribbean is a huge area; even if there are two or three big ones, your chances of being hit are pretty smal. Other than that, it tends to rain and then quickly clear up. (Presumably you're thinking of somewhere like Cancun rather than Acapulco on the Pacific coast.)
