I was recently stopped by the police and subsequently told my insurance policy was canceled by my insurers,I am now facing a charge of no insurance even though at the time of being stopped I was in reciept of the car insurance document. i was told that the company sent a letter canceling the policy which i did not recieve.so with this in mind would i not still technically be insured to the best of my knowledge ?

Do you pay monthly? If you read the small print of your policy you will probably find that if you do not keep up monthly payments your policy will be cancelled, the onus being on you to check that it has been paid. The police can so easily check via computer now that you have MOT ,insurance and road fund licence
the same recently happened to me i was summonds to cort in front of the judge. i put my case forward and although i was told that i was guilty i would be given an absolute discharge with no penalty points but had to pay 43pound court costs this seams to be the most favorable solution
very strange you dident receive the letter telling you your policy was cancelled, but i bet you received the policy when they first sent you a letter, and no technically, you are not insured, and yes you will be fined and get 6/8 pts, lets hope it puts you off the road before you kill someone.

thanks norman the hog a very understanding response you seem to be one of those a kin to never having made a mistake yourself? however with the view you have here i would i woulsd hassard a guess you would agree that a basic form of insurance should be paid for at the pump or when you pay for your vehicle duty so stoping this myth that only uninsured drivers kill and maim and that evry death on the road is caused by some one being caught out with bureucacy then again you are probably working in the insurance business and wouldnt see the simple effect that putting insurance at the pump would stop uninsured driving !
thanks for your answer any way even though it wasnt advice !

thanks annalinda i was just checking to see if any one knew wether or not i was insured because i had a dispute with the company on the payment, which would be a county court (civil matter) but actually having the document of insurance with out being notified of its cancelation leaves a grey area in the criminal court side ? but thanks all advice is helpful and you a re so right the police can and at present should be able to check easily !
I think fred's answers say it all. Numpty.

thanks for the support gef !people like norman the dog unfortunately still want to live in a dark age where we have sherif of nottingham characters, instead of making it an offence to drive without insurance isnt easier to make it impossible to be uninsured ! a basic insurance at source and insurance companies can sell you the extras . thanks again gef nice to see others thinking in this direction
you can slag me off as much as you like,i dont care,no insurance as far as im concerned should carry a years ban,the same as drink driving, there are NO excuses for not having it.
Actually I was calling fred a numpty. I totally agree with norman.
Question Author
ok gef well i respect your view either way and it would seem that norman doesnt like to be slated maybe he would have been better just to give advice like i was asking instead of his views according to his life ! As i stated a basic insurance at the petrol pump would make it that no car on the road would be uninsured taking away the fact of people being uninsured and removing a crime from an already overburdend judicial system .
