Am hoping to book a last minute summer holiday deal later this year and have no idea where to go really. It can only be for a week and, because it's for a minimum of four and on a budget, mustn't be too far. I thought Lanzarote sounded nice (although I don't like Spanish mainland) and thought it would be good to hire a villa so that teenage kids can take a friend too. I'm a bit worried about driving though (Is it safe?) and if we rent out a villa then a car is a must isn't it? Can anyone suggest anywhere that's not too far from shops/restaurants/things to do - so that the teenagers aren't stuck with boring old Mum and Dad all day? Thanks

The roads in Lanzarote are very good in terms of signage and general condition. Much better than in the UK. As long as you are happy driving on the wrong side of the road, you should be fine.
