I've never been to Lanzarote but am thinking of renting a villa for a week or two
next year.

What's it like ?

What's the best part of the island to go to for a family holiday ?

Thanks

Depends on the kind of holiday you like derek. If it's a family holiday then Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen cater for children and teenagers with bars and nightlife. For a peacefully quiet kind of holiday we love Playa Blanca on the Southern tip of the island. Sure you will love Lanzarote! May or October maybe are the best months - not too hot but when we went in May, a couple of days broke all records and was 43 degrees (too hot!) but normally it is around 26 - 30 at that time.

Thanks, Ann.

The holiday will be for my wife and I with our son, daughter -in-law and two grandchildren aged 6 and 5. We all love swimming, so will need a villa with a heated pool, access to restaurants within easy walking distance.

Take wind breaks for the beach.

Thanks, Chris and SirO.
I’ve been on a villa holiday to Playa Blanca a number of times (got back about three weeks ago from the latest).

The resort is quiet but does not have much of a beach. However it has plenty of nice eateries to suit all tastes. It also has a very good promenade stretching beyond both sides of the town and around the port which is ideal for an evening stroll. If you go for a villa always go for one bigger than you need (with at least one more bedroom than you require). This is because although there are always enough beds, the other space – including that around the pool – will be a bit tight. Villas in the Canaries tend to be a bit more cosy than those in, say, Greece or Portugal. Have a look at this company:

They have a few villas in the “Los Calamares” area. This is a quiet area with a mixture of residential and holiday accommodation but is only about ten minutes walk from the centre of town. If nothing in that area suits they have plenty of others. Although their pools are heated if you go in October you will not need it. When we were there in early October it was 30 degrees by day and not much below 23 or 24 at midnight and the pool was quite warm enough for a midnight dip before turning in :-)

People who have never been to Lanzarote before may be surprised to find that it is volcanic, with a black and barn landscape and very windy in places. In my estimation Puerto del Carmen is a bit of a dump: Costa Teguise is nicer
The Fire Mountains, where Noobeakwr was filmed, are a must to visit
Moonraker (sigh)
We went to Lanzarote a few years ago and to be honest I wouldn't rush back except we had a fantastic tour guide who really sold the island. I think there are some wonderful places to go but you have to do a little research.
