For taking on 1000 TC staff who are back behind their computers today,
Hays started with one shop in Sunderland , this is a really nice feel good feeling for those who faced a bleak Christmas

Yes, I agree Bobbi, what a relief for all concerned.

It’s uplifting to see Marval, Mr and Mrs Hay on our local news saying how people were cuddling each other when the doors opened, such was their relief and
Yes. Although I'm not sure what proportion of the former TC staff this represents- eg cabin crew, pilots, travel repsetc

FF even if it’s a fraction,it’s a start although those employed will be in the shops, there’s still the air crews out of work sadly
It's certainly good news for those who they help.

Think there are some numbers in the link from yesterday.

Lovely news, and such a relief for some, at least.
Well done Hays.
Hope it works out for them. Seems a major undertaking in a world more & more Internet serviced, to me.

So do I. But I fear it won't.

High Street shops represent an enormous overhead for any company. A small shop in my local High Street sets the proprietor back around £35k a year simply for rent and business rates. Add just two staff and that's another £50k at least. You're looking at the thick end of £100k to run just a small shop with a couple of staff. The travel industry does not work on particularly high margins and £100k a year will eat into those margins voraciously. I really cannot understand Hays' business model which seems to run contrary to those of the other operators I wish them well but fear it will end in tears.
Don't worry about the pilots, they'll be snapped up.
Used them a lot in their early days, through Ceefax, we got some really good deals, you'd phone up and get someone in their own home,
often could hear the children playing, once had somene who had to stop talking to go and check the oven! Hope they can make a success of this massive expansion.
I have to agree with NJ. A very altruistic offer to take on so many staff. But. There are only so many holidays to sell. The TC holidays don’t exist any more so exactly where is the business coming from to suddenly employ so many staff. If I were a Hays employee I would be worried.
