I have just heard that a nephew of mine has gone to Egypt for two weeks hols, but without telling anyone, including my brother. We have no idea where he is but it is unlikely that he is sightseeing at the Pyramids !

I thought the Red Sea resorts were out of bounds at present, so where else could he be ?

I already saw your post, Naomi, but thanks for reminding me :-)

I went to Croatia just a few weeks ago and that is considered to be under general threat from terrorism now, with France and Spain being considered high-risk. Interestingly Italy isn't considered to be under particular threat.
You're welcome.
I'm off to St Ives next Friday, Mikey. I shall have a Cornish Pasty in your honour!

Zacs....from your link ...."we advise against all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm el Sheikh"

So the FO isn't advising against travel to Sharm El Sheikh, but advises against getting there by air !
When I went to Egypt I went to a place called Marsa Alam. The brochure sold it so well. Cafes and shops blah blah blah. Reality was the hotel was in the middle of nowhere and had a cafe and a shop. The nearest town was a 40 minute drive away. Turned out to be a really relaxing holiday as we had nothing else to do...

NoMercy....I wish I was coming with you !

There is a Pub, right on the Harbour, called "The Sloop" which does a smashing breakfast !

Be careful of those bloody seagulls however ....attack rats from the air !
Just randomly checked availability for next week at one hotel in Sharm. Sold out.
My OH and his family have been going down there for years but this is my first time.

I believe we're going to Alba and The Seafood Cafe, among other places.

Funnily enough I've been pre-warned about the seagulls. They steal ice cream too, I hear.
NoM...they steal anything and they do it really quickly!
That's pretty much what his lordship said! I won't be happy if some thieving gull swipes my rum & raisin :(
One took my burger... :-)

NoMercy....if you have the weather, than St Ives is perfect.....I would rather spend a week there than many a fly-blown resort in a potentially terrorist part of the world.
The whole family raves about it, Mikey. We're staying in a 3-bed, 3-storey cottage overlooking the beach.

OH and I are going to Cape Verde in September but I'm honestly looking forward to St Ives more.

I have just done a quick search on holidays in Sharm el sheikh and there are quite a few to be found. But as the FO advises against travel to the airport, how are people getting there ?

I seem to recall that when we discussed this a few months ago, I was told it was a very dangerous journey overland.

Just heard...its Hurghada apparently.
I'm toying with a trip to Hurghada as I can't be doing with the faff of flying via Cairo to Sharm. Need to mull it over as Sharm has the better hotel.
He'll be in Sharm having a great time.
Hurghada is great. Very very hot now though.
