It is racism.

Not sure of you can generate a debate out of this - what is there to say?
Its shocking.

I think AOG is attempting to draw a debate out of what we in the UK perceive to be racist can often seem fairly petty when compared to this kind of 1950s separatist KKK style behavior.

Maybe so, but it fails to have legs - as I said, what can you say about something like this?

Thank you Booldawg at least you can see the reason for me posting this thread.

As you say it puts all the overuse of the word into some form of perspective.
What you say about something like this? Lots! Whilst we pontificate about whether or not we can use the word 'blackboard' there are kids in the deep south being brought up in this way.

My point remains valid.

You could as easily put up an OP that says 'Racism is a vile concept, and here is yet another example of it ...' and the result would be the same - a basic lack of response, because no response is needed.
Looks like the fish aren't biting today AOG! Must be something to do with tomorrows Solar eclipse!
The only response I can think of is......what poor little girls, that have their lives spoiled by ignorant and stupid adult(s) But I wonder if the same sort of thing could happen here ?
AH
If AOG had posted this link and put the P.S. "Well I think the father was quite correct in forbidding his daughter to go to a black family's house for a birthday sleepover." YOU would be the first to say lots all day and start a large debate instead of trying to stifle it stone dead.
mikey
Of course it could happen here and does I suspect.
I am with AH here...who is going to pop up on AB and agree with the little girls father ?
mikey

It's very likely that some people here ,harbour the same views - they just keep it secret
We should be pleased as a country that such overt and pathetic racism doesn't really exist any more, at least on nowhere near such a level. But I don't think that belittles the extant problems, the sort of casual (if, as was suggested recently, accidental) discrimination. There is still some work to do.

We can console ourselves that the problems are worse by many orders of magnitude in the US. Here's hoping that they catch up sooner rather than later.
I agree bazile. Racism is much more in your face in America than here. But being a racist used to be a badge of shame in Britain......now I am not so sure. They seem to be more keen to own up to it these days, as can be seen from the support for some of our racist political Parties.

Mikey the only little girls father who was quoted was the Black one whose Daughter received the note,
Do you not agree with him when he says
///Harmony’s father Christopher Jones said he was shocked that his daughter received a letter of this nature. “It angered me a little bit," he told the network. "It hurt me that my 10-year-old girl had to deal with this, and I myself never thought I would have to deal with this."///
"Not sure of you can generate a debate out of this - what is there to say?"

"... and the result would be the same - a basic lack of response, because no response is needed".

Errrrrrr.
Mikey the only racist parties we have are the BNP & the EDL
aog
You are not doing so badly here for a link that was considered a non starter and not worthy of debate. :-)

Quite possibly ... but he didn't say that - so your point is?

I am not trying to 'stifle' anything - simply making a point that there is no debate here - and as time goes on, I am being proved right.
