You are running late for school, if you are late one more time you would face being suspensed for a whole week. But, on your way to school you saw a small kid in distress, they fell of their bike and knees and elbows were bruised. There's no one else in sight. Would you stop and help the kid or face detention for a week, and your grades would be affected?

My eight-year old nephew asked me this question but in his own words.

Stop and help
The school should take into account the reason for lateness.

Hmm, tough one. The immediate, instinctive answer is stop and help and explain what happened when you got to school.

However, if you are at the point of being suspended for lateness then there is clearly and extensive track record and a whole raft of excuses for lateness have gone before. The teachers are unlikely to take the legitimate reason on board, a classic case of 'the boy who cried wolf'.

As the injuries are relatively minor I think I would continue on my way to school and tell them that there is an injured child near by.

Definitely stop, the school must take this into consideration
its not a tough one its easy -stop and help. A vulnerable injured child is more important that a school suspension. Once the child had been tended to the parent of the injured child, or attending medical professionals could phone the school and explain the situation.

I would stop and help. Who's to know, there might be complications other than bruises. Saving a life or helping someone in danger or distress means more to me than detention from school for a week. A week off from school could be a good thing :)

I think as an adult I would stop and help, as an 8 year old child, I too would also be concerned about missing Thundercats.

Oh sod it - as an adult I'd be concerned about missing thundercats! ;o)
I like to ask myself a question, when faced with a dilemma like this...

"What would Jesus do"?

It works well in any situation, when you find yourself in a bit of a quandary.

Kid falls off his bike - What would Jesus do?
You find ten pounds in the street - What would Jesus do?
Chips or salad - What would Jesus do?

See! :)
I think adult reasoning is being applied. As an eight year old I know that I would have been absolutely bricking it if I was going to be suspended, I suspect my Mother would have only been on side had the other kids leg been hanging off :-(

Trigs, this is not school work. We both like to quiz each other and sometimes ask serious or outrageous or silly stuff. You know, just have fun spending time together, you know what I mean...

He is a very brilliant child and comes up with stuff that makes me wonder if he's been here on earth before.
''makes me wonder if he's been here on earth before''

He's not Jesus is he? If so, according to B_S he should've known what to do.

Fluffy, where are you? See here what Trigs been doing ;)
its ok soc, saves me have to play the "detention game" again....

I'd probably stop and help, but have to confess, i too would be concerned about thundercats & battle of the planets
As an adult, you would naturally help without question.
As a child, the logic may be slightly different and facing detention may be a daunting thought combined with the chance the teacher may not beleive him.
