wander round Buda castle on the hilly side of the river - good views. The Mathias church is interesting but may still be under scaffolding inside. Have afternoon tea in the cafe up the back of the Paris department store on Andrassy Ut. You could take the quaint old metro line from the river, under Andrassy Ut, to Heroes Square then stroll back above ground. Big old Parliament building on the Pest riverbank is based on the one in London; I'm not sure if it's open to the public. Lots of art nouveau buildings everywhere. (Have a look inside the Gresham Palace hotel). Take a tour of the opera house - rather grand.

I enjoyed the market place (wonderful walnut halfs and cheep) in an old iron building. Food on the first floor and food vendors on the second. I also enjoyed the open air museum just up the river by boat. I think it takes about 30 minutes to get their. Old farming houses, equipment, furniture etc. When I was their they were drying pementoes on the porches of some of the houses. I also loved the natural hot tubs.
Only my opinion, and I only had five days there, but I would recommend you visit the Citadela restaurant on the hill which gives magnificent views over Buda and Pest - it is ever so slightly expensive but the food is divine and the view is even better. Do the river cruise, visit the parliament buildings and the terror museum. Walk along the magnificent streets at leisure and visit the cafes to watch the world go by. I also went to see Honved play, got drunk with a Partick Thistle fan and visited a Scottish bar called (I think) The Caledonian, but you might want to skip that.
Actually, those pictures don't do the Citadella justice. The panoramic view over the river at night is unmatched practically anywhere I have been.
