It probably is.
The passport office recommend six weeks for a first adult passport.
You cannot use the fast track service either - that's now only for renewals.

hi i wouldnt i have had a passport befor and i sent it check and send and i have been waiting now for over six weeks.
I have phoned them 5 times and i just get ********, then they say i am being investigated lol whot a load of crap lived here all my life given them every thing in ID ?

Ah well never mind, got a spare ticket for a weeks hol in turkey, friend wants to come but no passport, looks like just me and the kids then!! lol

you should get it in time i sent mine of from post office on a sat the next sat i got a letter to ring for a date to go for a interview i went that next sat and got my passport on the wedn ...my first passport so had to have a interview ....

Why doesn't your friend apply for their passport? If they get it in time for this holiday then all well and good, if not then at least they've already got one for any future holidays.

my husband applied for his first passport a month ago and i sent them check and send he received a letter the same week asking him to arrange an interview which he did he got his passport 4 days later. his letter came on a wednesday rang same day for interview which he got for that saturday and his passport came the wednesday . he got his before me and i only had to renew mine.
