We're going there at the beginning of August. Has anyone been before? Any tips/info etc would be much appreciated about the island or Venice
TIA

Murano glass is world reknowned.

Although it used to shatter very easily. Make sure you have your purse full and pick up some lovely pieces.

< Be prepared to be worn out, lots of walking, get a pass for the "Vaporetto" the water taxis, they take you everywhere and are very cheap, when eating avoid the major cafes by the rialto bridge, go around the back streets, St Marks square is amazing, well worth paying to enjoy a glass of wine and some olives while relaxing amazinmg atmosphere, also make sure you go on a gondola, costs about 100 euros, but it really is worth it, we were on our one for about and hour. you get the vaporetto to Murano, some nice cafes there, but the glass is very expensive. have a great time, Ray

I took a vaporetto over to Murano for a few hours and found it to be a very colourful little island, there were some nice churches and plenty of good places to eat and not too crowded. But be warned, Venice itself is terribly overcrowded in the summer, the alleys are jammed with people and the cafe staff treat you like dirt ( they know there are plenty of tourists to take your place). If your going to visit it from Murano get the earliest vaporetto you can, or aim to arrive after 4pm when the day trippers leave.

Just a quick point - the vaporetto are water buses, not taxis, and are quite cheap. (Investigate passes for your stay).

Water taxis are also available - but cost the earth.
