Newish laptop - touch (mouse) pad stopped working

Work's laptop, think about 4 months old. About a week ago my laptop briefly displayed a large icon in the middle near the bottom of the screen that looked like the touch (mouse) pad, with a huge red line through it! Seconds later the touch pad stopped working. I switched off etc but alas still not working. I've had to borrow a mouse in order to use laptop. Machine has been switched off and on again numerous times but touch pad still not working. (Incidentally there is a minute orange light in the corner of the mose pad that has illuminated to tell me it's not working!)
Laptop is HP ProBook 4525s.
How do I switch on the touch pad again?
