In internet explorer, how can I make the 'links' folder in the favourites menu go away? It seems to regenerate itself if you delete it.

By the way, isn't it a bit pointless? What could you possibly put in your Favourites list that isnt a link of some kind?

Not pointless at all.

If you activate the links toolbar, (either view > toolbars and tick the 'links' option, or just right click on any part of the toolbar to get the same sub-menu), then the items in your links folder will appear as icons at the top of your IE page.

If you put say, four or five of your most used sites in the links folder, it saves scrolling down through all your favourites list every time you need one of them.

I tend to have Google, Streetmap and, of course, AB in my links (amongst others), so that they're literally just a click away at the top of the screen.

If any names of links are too long too fit in, just edit them to something short and sweet.

Brachiopod, perhaps they should call it the "Favourite Favourites" folder then :-)

When I said "4 or 5 of your most used sites..." I originally wrote favourite favourites !!  But there seemed to be too many 'favourites' in the sentence so I re-wrote it.

Favourite Favourites would certainly be a better name for the links folder, rojash !!

(Goes off to see if their is a way of renaming it....)

shouldnt that be Favourite Favorites? You can rename the folder but then it dont show up when you turn on the links menu

There is a LinksFolderName string in my registry

its located here

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\

I would guess that if I made a new folder called Favourite Favorites in my existing favorites folder, changed this registry value and then logged off and on again it might work

But I have better things to do this afternoon than fix my pc.

"..better things to do...."

Too bloody right, Phantaxus, I hear a large pint of cider calling my name.....

just curious brachiopod... would that be much bigger than a small pint of cider ;D
