My mother has been given a dab radio for her birthday. Problem is, even though we are apparently slap bang in the middle of a 'very good' reception area, she can get nothing thru dab - even tho normal radio works fine. I have a suspicion it may be the crappy supplied aerial but surely she should get something?

A bit of radio and aerial moving is needed here, plus a large amount of patience!

We bought a good one about a week ago and I imagined it would just sit in the kitchen and give me hours of joy immediately. Not so - not only is the slightest movement of the radio critical, but so is the aerial. I didn't have the patience required but thankfully my husband  did - and the sound is amazing, so keep going...

If your mums house is made from steel or reinforced concrete then that will affect the reception

Is there any type of socket on the radio for attaching an external aerial ?

I have a Hi-Fi DAB, it works OK with the supplied interior wire aerial stuck on a wall close to a downstairs window. I tried a TV aerial connection and suprisingly it gets a better, error-free signal from the TV aerial on the roof. I am pretty close to a main DAB transmitter, saved me installing an external DAB aerial.

I can measure the interior aerial length if you want to try making up your own.
