Bit of a long shot but....

My new digital camera is a Kodak.  I want to be able to look at (mainly) and edit my pictures both using the Kodak software and any other software on my computer (Windows Picture Viewer).  If in My Documents I rename the photo, it makes it unavailable in the Kodak software to do anything at all! Do I just have to put up with it? I find the Kodak software at times abit complicated, but would like to be able to rename the photos and if necessary, open them with other programs!

Thanks!

Make sure when you are renaming the photo that the file extension (.wav, .doc etc)  is .jpg....perhaps you are inadvertently saving it as a different type of file. The file ending .jpg is almost universal when you are dealing with digital photos.....I don't see why the kodak prog would not recognise it.... some options would be to download a lovely small program called irfanview...its freeware and is fab for resizing stuff and things ....other than that you could go to paintshop pro and down load a trial version of paintshop pro 4 which doesn't expire....
The kodak software creates a type of 'database' of the photos name and location. If you rename the file outside of the program, kodak wouldnt know about it, as it looks for the name it knows. Example, say you had a photo called "my pet" open in kodak. Later, you rename the file to "my dog". When you re-open (or try to) the photo in kodak, it looks for the original name ("my pet") and cant find it. The secret is to rename the file in kodak, or make it search for your piccies again to update itself. Hope this helps. PM
