Windows Live Messenger Update

I received a general E-mail from Microsoft to install an update for Windows Live Messenger and if i did not update it would stop working on a certain date.
I tried to update but every time it gets to 100% progress it starts rolling back everything that should be updated and gives about 30 error numbers too many to look through and sort, i have emptied my temp internet files, done a disc clean up but no joy to getting the updates can anyone tell me whats wrong.
