Line rental

I have a broadband package with Toucan which includes BT line rental for £8.99. Neighbour is with Virgin and was told they couldn't give her BT line rental because she doesn't have cable. Can anyone explain this please? Many thanks.

Yes. Your neighbour has misunderstood, as she does indeed have cable. What she doesn't have is a BT line which Toucan needs.

Virgin laid their own cables some years ago, which provided telephone, television and broadband independently of BT lines.

Virgin broadband users don't need or use BT lines, and it is a totally different system.

Hi 'liz65'...interesting that you get broadband from toucan at £8.99p ,when their website offers two services ...512k @ £13.99p and 8 Mb @ &14.99p.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear - her broadband is with Virgin, but her phone is with BT and she wants Virgin to do her line rental, but I'm confused now. If she has Virgin, she must have cable, right? So why is her phone line with BT? Have to make further enquiries on this one. Thanks anyway, Ethel

Sorry, Zinnie, it's only the line rental that's £8.99. Liz. Actually, I've just signed up for another 12 months and I'm getting up to 8mb broadband, line rental and free evening and weekend calls all for £14.99 and, the first 3 months are free ! However, this deal is only for existing customers, so you won't find it on the website. Liz
