Hiya,

I dont know if its the same with names on licenses & address, but the other day in a standard police check thingy, and they were going to fine him as the address on his license was his mums address which he moved out of a few years ago.

Like I say, dont know if its the same, or if thats any help!
She will need to get it renewed in her name, is this license 17yrs old if so has she a different address too? She will need a new photo license
I believe in Australia both the maiden name and married name are valid aliases.
am i on another planet? i have tried and tried to make sense of both the question and the first answer and just can't. why would a sofa company be telling her off about her liscence? have the police outsourced this work to DFS now? the mum didn't know she was married till the sofa company told her? perhaps sofa companies are taking over the world? Oh it's all too much for my little brain

I'd like a definite legal answer on this actually, my driving license has been registered to my parents address for the last 15 years despite the fact I don't live there, my argument has always been I have been nearly nomadic for long periods so changing the address every couple of months is impracticable and would also probably result to my license being sent back to an address I'd moved away from.

My argument has always been that the address on the license is a contact address for me and it's one that I can always be contacted through.

I've had this discussion with police officers at the side of the road a few times and they have always agreed that if I move about often then it is better to keep the license at one fixed address that I can be contacted through.

oh and I am UK based
Chuck, you say they agree, but is it legal in your situation?

I must admit, my driving licence has my old address on it too but as I dont drive anywhere, it hasnt been a priority for me to change it in a hurry.
Psychick

So sorry to keep you waiting... ;)

I really don't know if it is legal or not, but there has always been the letter of the law and the spirit of the law and although I have never had to argue this point in court all the police I have had to deal with about this matter on the roadside have agreed with me that is would be better in my (semi nomadic) situation to keep my license at a fixed address that I can be contacted through even if that is not strictly my actual address of residence at that time..

As I said I would like to know the strict legal standpoint on this.

new judge or similar If you read this I would respect your opinion on this matter.
Is she going to drive the sofa home?

If so she`ll need someone with a full licence sitting next to her
Thanks chuck :)

If anyone can clear up the matter on both the name and address, I would also appreciate it , thanks :)

Elvis, do you need a licence to drive a sofa? ;)
