hello tia, it sounds like one of two things, it could be your firewall, blocking access to the Hp software to check this go to control panel then windows firewall, then go to advanced and click restore defaults this will resest all the possibly blocked hp software, or it could be the HP Update utility is corrupted, in which can you can go to the site manually and re-download the software and re-install it.
