when i'm adding a user account on windows2000 (start - settings - control panel - user and passwords), under the USERS TAB, i don't have the check box for "USERS MUST ENTER A USER NAME AND PASSWORD TO USE THIS COMPUTER." the book i'm reading says i should have that. i also searched the internet and the option should be there. how come i don't have that? thanks

did you check the box that said that only one account user was using your PC? if you really need to set up several accounts i would reload windows 2000 onto your pc and start from scratch - it doesn't help you solve your problem but it might help you get rid of it.
