Dual Layer DVD writers can produce 8.5GB discs, using dual layer media as against 4.7GB for single layer.

Just curious as to why you are looking for an EXTERNAL drive. These are more expensive and, being USB, generally considered not as efficient

Hi puzzles just as I thought it would be easier for me to install. I have a spare slot in computer but would not know how to put in rewriter. Any help would be apprecciated very much. Computer has a dvd cd combined drive already but have to copy all to hard drive then copy to dvd or cd. I would like to disc to disc copy.
Installing an internal Dvd writer is a simple task - I assume it's a PC and not a laptop ?

After removing the relevant side panel (2 screws usually) , then removing existing CD writer (4 screws), connection of the new unit is a simple reversal. You just need to note how the IDE ribbon cable , power lead and sound lead were oriented originally and replicate that orientation for the new drive.

If you have a look at http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/store/CD/DVD-Drives, you will find a good range of reasonably priced DVD writers

Thanks for that information puzzles. But I want to copy disc to disc I would then only have one drive if I removed combined cd rom dvd rewrite drive. I am so thick at technical things like this.
Well, if you have 2 Ide ribbon cables in your PC, then you can leave the existing drive in place.

The arrangement then would be :-

Primary Ide - Master to hard drive, Slave to cd drive(ie as it probably is at present)
Secondary Ide - Master to DVD writer, Slave not connected
