Am I missing something? The posting under this one refers to 'middleware' on XP. What is it? Do I need to get rid of it?

I don't know but if answerbok means windows messenger this is a legacy service going back to the early Windows days.
middleware, Robber, is Microshaft's answer to the high court demands that they must allow users to choose a bit instead of dominating us every which way; this also why they made Service pack1 but they cheated [again] and your supposed to be able to uninstall Mediaplayer and Messenger but you can't they.. anyway look here to find out; http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2002apr/gee20020

Terrific answer answerbok, thank you. I have looked at the sites and it is unbelieveable what I have read. The "f***microsoft" site was full of information and an eye opener. I am not sure that I have the knowledge or nerve to carry out the instruction in DOS but I have saved them to maybe attempt it in the near future. Thanks again.
