Windows Genuine Advantage Notification is trying to access the Internet

What is Genuine Advantage notification?

It is the lovely people at Microsoft making sure you are not running illegal Windows.

If you are sure you are legitimate, allow it, otherwise you will not get your updates.

the problem is though, as in my case, if you have genuine windows, but have copied it yourself (ie, using norton ghost or other disk backup software) and have had to use the backup copy to fix a problem, windows will see this as illegal copy. stresses me out but you can just reinstall windows

...but surely windows looks at your key and sees that it is not unique ie a copy?
