It should specify this on the item, however I would say that in most cases the shipping is additional to the cost of the item. The costs of the shipping are determined by the seller, this is why you so often see some smaller items at remarkably low prices, but when you take into account shipping costs theyre probably not worth it - Ebay do have a code I believe that shipping has to be reasonable however.

the shipping is not "calculated" as such, the seller can make up whatever he/she wants to charge. Each item will have the postage on it or it will say "contact seller for details"

If it says contact seller always do it before bidding, after you are bound to the deal, you dont want to have to find shipping is 15 pounds or something.

In fairness, people bump it up on the postage because it's blooming expensive to sell on ebay - you have to pay an insertion fee ans then a percentage of the final price too

I am currently selling two graphics cards on Ebay. One is very heavy and is in a big box, I have estimated the postage to be 10, as I haven't the time to go to the post office and get it weighed, however, I have also stated that if the postage is less than 10, then I will refund the difference.

Generally speaking, the buyer pays the postage, but some sellers are more honest than others when it comes to how much that costs.

weigh your item using a set of ordinary kitchen scales and then go to the royal mail website and that will tell you how much the parcel will cost. remember also to add the cost of the packaging - bubble wrap etc
