I use cord headphones with my desktop, and cordless with my TV, and both suffer from background crackling noise. It's usually masked by sound, but in quiet passages of television, or music, I can hear the crackling.

Is there a way to eliminate it?

Here: Headphone crackling can be a sign that they need to be replaced. The sound is usually an indication that the insulation around the speaker is wearing down, which can lead to a short in the wiring.
