DELL PC - DVD problem

Hi
Cannot be bothered calling Dell as I find them laborious (in order to get call time up) so could someone help me please. I've just gone to BACKUP a dvd using SONIC and when I put the original disc in, it ejects the dvd and asks to put a disc in to the drive. It's also saying that the blank dvds aren't blank. Please help.
p.s. The PC is only 3 months old
