Just renewed a passport for boy #2 and the passport office now have ‘mother or parent 1’ and ‘father or parent 2’ for the relevant sections. I’m not bothered how they refer to me but I know this has been discussed on here.

So why is it not "mother, parent 1 or parent 2" Why do they assume mothers are the 1st parent?

Just curious.
A sign of the times.
and similarly, "father, parent 1 or parent 2"
either way.. It doesn't take parent 1 and parent 2 to have a child, it takes a man and a woman. No arguing there.

We'll get to a point in society we can't study biology as school in case it defines someone to restrictions such as being a human.
Breathe...
There was thread on here about this earlier this week too.
That was about France I think, catching us up.
Oui.
All sounds perfectly logical to me.
I guess you can have a biological mother, a biological father a parent 1 and a parent 2..
What about absent parents who are not on the birth cert?
Yes but it doesn't matter which comes first, whether it's mother or father, it's so irrelevant unless people are looking for a fight about gender, who actually cares, this covers everyone, and not everything has to be a flaming competition between men and women.
If they aren't on the birth cert they don't have parental responsibility so they aren't needed on the form.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen it before (always filling in forms for something).
It's not men vs women at all.. And if you think it doesn't take a mans seed and a womans egg to make a baby then.. well.

1 and 2, to me, could imply favouritism / how important each parent is. Surely 1 would imply slightly more importance than 2? this just creates more issues IMO.

It's nothing to do with men vs women.

Like mentioned in another thread.. Fed up with preconceived prejudice
And to be honest.. the people looking for a fight about gender are the ones who got this 1 and 2 system in place in the first place. If no one had an issue it wouldn't have changed.

I’m not bothered about parental pecking order either - I suppose to keep everyone happy they could have parent 1 and parent A (before the things were born they were referred to as twin A and B).
To keep everyone happy instead of having parent 1 or 2 (limiting children to only having 2 parents, how unfair) they could just have "parent" then select multiple options.
