Were you one of the horrid little sisters who always cried until she got the one and only cherry in the tin of fruit salad.....
Or the long suffering one who never got the cherry?

Like me.... :-(

Yum - tinned fruit salad! Sure takes me back; that was the height of sophistication in Glasgow in the 60s. Now, where's the Carnation milk?
I was the one who never got the cherry....ineffect. When a new packet of cereal was opened, my sister always got the free toy. When I said 'That's not fair, she got the last one!', my mum would always reply either 'Nothing's fair in this world' or 'You can have the next one.' I never did though ;(
Now I think about it, I always used to pick out the revolting little squares of pear....
I was sweet baby brother who always got the cherry!
We were posh - Fussells Condensed instead of Carnation - and yes - the gritty pear bits were vile.
I was big Sister, so I dished out the fruit salad - mwa ha ha ha.
Nowt as exotic as that in the mean streets of the dear green place, dave!
My big sister...and brother...were so much older. So I got spoiled mostly...though my poor sister had to suffer sharing a room with me.

Carnation Milk......lovely on porridge..... :-)

Clover....every Friday my mum would buy two treats.....my sister and I took turns to have first pick....it was always my sister's turn!

Lord but the pears were dire.....and Calibax....my sister got her comeuppance when the sweet baby brother arrived....hi baby brother if you're looking in...golden balls!.... :-)

Dave...that looks far from posh!

Mamya......oh....... ;-)
I was the youngest, but I wasn't either. Mum used to try and be fair.
I was the baby for a while then soon my position got usurped by endless littlies, so I'll never get the cherry again now :(

I'll bet you've something exotic you can trump Dave with, GG.....x

Nobody would share a room with me, Pasta......I was an early snorer....... ;-)
Were they only one cherry in a ton of fruit salad ,then ?
Condensed milk and evaporated milk are two different things. You couldn't pour condensed milk, you had to spoon it out.

You were so lucky, Marval.....I recall mum coming home once with two beaded necklaces...one lovely and one yukky....my sister chose...
Next week mum brought two pouffes.....one green and squishy....and one brown and tough as old boots...my sister chose...I gave up... :-(

Me neither, Kval.....oh for a tinned fruit cherry.... :-(
We were posh - we had carnation milk as our sandwich filling

Then we went even posher and graduated to spam
I did usually get first dibs on the Fondant Fancies at Saturday teatime - I'd been at school & it was only fair ... I usually had the brown one ...
I actually had two condensed milk sandwiches over the weekend - they were lush :)
I was the only child who wasn't too keen on the cherries in tinned fruit salad anyway. I regarded them as rather disappointing and nothing like what I thought of as 'real' cherries, which were actually the glacé cherries my Mum used for baking (and which I nicked straight from the packet in the larder as soon as her back was turned).
