Itunes To Iphone Problem

my husband has his iphone connected to an apple macbook pro and is able to download/sync music on the computer to his iphone. When I plug in my iphone it doesnt recognise my phone only initially to upload photos. I am wanting music on my iphone, any ideas please how to do this? Its an iphone 4 or 4s, not sure.

Support not clear. Cannot find things to click on ie. devices etc Any other help appreciated.
As I read it, open iTunes on your computer. Connect your iPhone to the computer with a USB cable. Towards the top right of the screen (on your computer) there should be a button labelled 'iPhone'. Click on it. Click 'Apply'. Job done.

So which bits are missing?
