Orange Mobile Contract

I was told by Orange that my contract finishes at the beginning of March. I went into a phone shop today and they phoned Orange on my behalf, Orange told them my contract ends in January. Why would this be? The phone shop quoted me £25 for a new iphone (I have a bog standard phone at the moment) on an Orange contract but I just looked on Tesco and they are quoting around £12.50-£15.00 a month. Why such a difference? Tesco are 100 minutes shorter phone time per month by the way. And how do I swap from Orange to Tesco, keep my number, and put my SIM card in the new phone so I have all my phone numbers? Sorry I'm not technical.

Orange may let you take out another Orange product early but may make you wait if you want to leave them.

I suppose I had better phone Orange and sort out the date the contract finishes. Why are Tesco so much cheaper that Orange/Carphone Warehouse quote?

Sorry, I mean 'cheaper Than' ...
we're with 02 and our contract's not due to finish til June, but because we've been with them a while, we can change our phones in February. Perhaps that's it.
Mrs BS has just left Orange to go to Tesco and is v pleased. To leave you need a porting authorisation code ...PAC...from Orange. This will enable you to transfer your old number.BTW Tesco use O2 as a carrier.
