Pop Ups

How do you get rid of them? I updated my browser as requested by my well whatever you call that thing. But the little pop up things along the bottom of my screen little box about 15cm long and 1.5cm tall with a wee yellow bit at the top, often telling you about add-ons or such things..is there any way to turn them off. It was popping up with the same message every 2 seconds telling me that internet explorer had blocked some content and was driving me MAD!!!!

Is it just on AB you get it? If so, so do I, ever since we upgraded to IE9. I just ignore it.
If you're on chrome get AdBlock plus, stops pop ups
It sounds like your security setting is too high. See here to change it:

Alternatively, go to Tools > Options > Internet Options > Advanced, and click to put a tick alongside 'Allow active content to run in files on my computer'. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.

. . .alternatively, use a decent browser!

Hardly any of the 'regulars', here in AB's Technology section, would ever consider using Internet Explorer. The majority use Firefox

with Chrome also have a lot of fans:

I take the view that Internet Explorer is a valuable aid....to get onto the Internet to download a better Browser.

A lot of folk I think are afraid to try another Browser because they are unaware that one can have a number of Browsers in a computer and make whichever they like as a 'default'; and retain all others as 'back-ups'.

I have IE, Google and my favourite Firefox. However, not being a Techie, I keep telling people to choose something to meet their requirements from the following:-

First off Boxtops - no its mainly when I start using my laptop or until last night when I went onto Facebook and a buy and sell page I use on there.

Thanks for all the advice buenchico I'll have a look into it. I like my laptop tied up like fort knox. I have been hacked a few times and I like to be safe.

But I shall see if there is anything that is better suited to my needs

Many thanks again :)
