This is not very technical for you clever folk who understand computers etc but I am a bit of a dummy where such things are concerned. On my keyboard there is a key on the top left which has ` and ¬, which I can access in the usual way, as you can see. But it also has a third symbol, a vertical, straight line - hw do I access this please?

Many thanks for your help.

Ctl Alt and the key.
try ctrl/alt and then the button.
bah ...too late
use the Alt Gr key to the right of the space bar - ¦

that key also gives you a foreign accents when used with some letters
coltrol+alt? Actualy gives me a split line ¦¦
Thanks for that tip about accents, Bibblebub, very handy! I didn't know that and always spend ages looking through the symbols.
¦¦ is what you are meant to get from that key....

And CTRL+ALT is exactly the same as AltGr, it's just two ways of getting the same result.

Hey you people are very fast at answering - thank you very much.
Yes, I can see that this key gives you ¦ , so how would I get a straight vertical line, like that indicated on that key? I need it for a password that I have been sent to access a particular website and they have definitely got a single, straight, vertical line! I even copied it and englarged it so I could see it clearly as it was a bit small for my failing eyesight in the e-mail. Any ideas? Perhaps I should just ask them for another password.
On the key it shows the broken line - if you want straight vertical its next to the shift key on the backslash button.
slightly interestingly, my aspire 7540 has these key markings interchanged so that | gives a ¦ and ¦ gives a | confusing or what?
as Pollypeptide says, the key has a | on it, not a ¦ at all. At least, mine does; presumably Davethedog's doesn't.
Ctrl & Alt then the key shows as ¦

similar to trl & alt & 4 produces €
jno, should we send them all back?
I need to check to see if anyone has answered these questions before me LOL.
the way I see it, it's not my computer key that's wrong, it's all the rest of the internet.

¦``¦¦¦¦¦¦¬¬¬¬¬ You learn something new every day.
Following on from this question on my keyboard going from the space bar right is AltGr then a key with a small blue square with the capital letters FN,can any one tell me what this key is.
It enables the alternative functions (marked in blue) on certain keys on your laptop keyboard, such as volume up/down screen brightness etc.

It would have been covered in the manual when you got the laptop.
^^^^

how could it have been read if it was covered......(feeble attempt at humour there)
