What's wrong with my broadband?

For the last few days after I have been using my computer, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes half an hour or more, I can't access any sites. I get a message saying something like "IE is unable to connect etc". I have tried Broadband desktop help and pulled out and put back all the plugs etc. I am with BT. Any ideas please.

IE has been slowing up dreadfully on me (using BT broadband)....switch to Chrome and things are far, far better - the hassle being swapping passwords over.
