I've grouped several books on my Kindle into Collections under the authors' names, but the individual books still appear in the Contents list. I've tried removing them from that, but then the books disappear into Archived items and don't show in the Collections either. The whole point of doing it was to cut down on the number of books listed in the introductory pages. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of them individually while retainng them in Collections?

How did you group them into collections please? Does it also work on the kindle iPad app?

I don't know about the iPad, I'm afraid. On the ordinary Kindle, underline the title, press Menu, and scroll down to 'Create new collection'. Press the centre of the 5-way button, and a dialogue box appears; you can use the keyboard to type a name for the collection.
I just found out, it's not yet in the app but thanks for answering. I prefer iBooks but not all the books I want come in that format....the sooner someone invents a book format changer the better!
I've toyed with the idea of a Kindle but just can't get my head around not having a proper book in my hand! (sorry to change the subject x)

I wouldn't be without real books either, mazie, but the Kindle has been very useful; I stocked up with titles I wanted to read when I was on holiday so that I didn't have to carry loads of extra weight, and have also just downloaded three that I've been looking for for ages and couldn't get hold of from the library or second-hand bookshops at only £2.50 each. Also the whole of the Father Brown short stories absolutely free!
In order to see only the collections and the books that are not members of collections, you need to order by collections.
On the home page, move up to where it says "Showing xxx Items", move right, select Collections.

Sorry for delay, Rojash, I'd given up on further answers. Many thanks, that works and is exactly what I wanted. I hadn't noticed that there was the possibility to change the top line.
I love real books but have run out of room for bookcases. Do constantly buy and return books to charity shops. Still belong to the library. My kindle allows me to take books away without making my luggage too heavy. Also if I am too unwell to go out I can still get reading material. Not had a problem with Collections.
