It scans every time I start=up, I'm happy with that!
what I want to know is, do I need a anti-viras or does AVG cover me ? or do I need to install an AV programmer?

I use the free AVG and it suits me fine. Yes it does have anti-virus protection.
I just have free AVG as my virus checker and it works well. You can choose a timing when you want it to scan.

I have being told that my "free" AVG does not cover anti-virus!
If you look at your AVG control panel you will see that it is titled 'AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition'. Furthermore, the Overview pane will show you what components are active and if they are up to date, which should also include the Anti Virus feature!
There is no need to scan your computer every time you start it. Once a week is more than enough if you are not constantly visiting dodgy websites.
dear me,,lol
For a moment there, I read AOG security

What an appalling thought.

You're right Twix, I just checked the overview and the AV is there. thanx.
No daffy, I don't visit any dodgy sites. Is a scan once a week really enough?
Hi Ebaby. I have 3 PCs, all running AVG Free, which I have set to update when the system is started but I only run the scan option occasionally, approximately once a month when I remember and have nothing better to do.
1. AVG IS an Anti-virus ... free or not.
2. Start-up scans are different to full scans. They scan critical files only on start-up .. and prevent malicious content loading into memory.
