depends on your aerial. borrow one to try
|

You will need to connect your TV to a decent Aerial .....no Aerial no Signal.
|
|
Freeview boxes require a signal from an aerial. Unless you're very close to the transmitter you'll need an external aerial. (Indoor ones tend to be unreliable or simply won't work at all).
So, if there's an aerial on your roof, with a coaxial lead feeding into your bedroom, you can probably simply buy a Freeview box. Otherwise you might need to call in an aerial fitter as well. Chris |

Thank you for your quick replys,i only have a small portable aerial, any suggestions to what i need to buy,

If you're currently getting excellent reception on analogue TV, with your portable aerial, start by simply giving it a try. If (because you're really close to the transmitter) your Freeview box can 'lock onto' all available channels, without any signal break up, then you clearly don't need to do anything else.
If your portable aerial gives you quite good reception, but with some missing channels or picture break up, you might get away with simply adding an aerial amplifier, such as this one: http://www.maplin.co....gle&u=223504&t=module Otherwise you need to get an aerial fitter to provide you with something like this on your roof: http://www.maplin.co....eband-tv-aerial-22523 Chris |

A correct answer from Old Salt, but the presence of your satellite dish opens up the possibility of using a Freesat box. They're only a few pounds dearer than Freeview boxes:

why not get a digi box and send virgin signal to your portable?
|
|
aerial will help to get the signal for freeview channel, Which virgin dish wont do it....
aerial will be able to get the signal more appropriatly.... |

You have a sky dish already which will pick up Freesat . So all you need is a Freesat box. and run the cable from the dish into your bedroom.
Quite simple, my daughter did that when she moved house and like you there was a sky dish already there. Another point, I think I'm right to say, Freesat has more channels and more are on the way. You can also get a Freesat box complete with a recorder which is also worth considering. In a few years times the ugly forest of roof aerials will be a thing of the past because dishes can be mounted low down . Several in my area are attached to the garden fences. |

Have a look at this Humax Freesat box, we bought this when we went Freesat last August & we have found it excellent, simply plug in the cable from the sky dish. Ron.

// Humax Freesat box, // There is one important thing to remember if you wish to record one channel whilst watching another you will need two down leads because the recorder has two tuners to receive the two signals .
