I have Norton Security on my pc which expires at the end of this month. Do I have to renew it online or can I buy it elsewhere? There is a big price difference. TIA

Definately don't renew it, you can get perfectly adequate security / antivirus programs for free!
Anything you could need is here http://www.filehippo.com/ for free . I have Avast! , ad-aware & spybot other people will have there preferences but ditch Norton .
You ill need to download and run Norton removal tool http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo .nsf/docid/2005033108162039
If you did want to renew it I last saw it was going for 19.99 in WHSmiths recently. Problem was they were all sold out in the shop I went to. I never went back to see if they had got new stock in for the same price.
the latest hotshot according to all the PC mags is avira
google avira oem and see what you find

the freebies are just that .... free - because they are cut down versions ... and so won't give the same levels of protection.

with the freebies ignorance is bliss ... if you don't know how badly you are infected ...
Definitely don't get Norton - I've just had a right game trying to delete it from my pc, the guy from TalkTalk who provide my broadband said it is almost impossible to get rid of and something in the set-up causes other problems with computers. In the end my pc had to go into the workshop and it cost me 85.00 to get it fixed. While it was in there they set me up with a free security on-line.
pips

norton does still have a very bad rep as a slow mover

but you've been had (85 times) - the guy from TT knows what everyone else in the business knows ....
it's difficult to get rid of because that's it's job.

and because of that - Norton provide removal tools which do the business.

(it's the same for other packages as well - avg, avira, macafee all provide removal tools)

... I've used them to remove hundreds of expired copies ... we've recommended it here many many many times - and they are all free to download.

they don't always wear a mask it seems

delete norton icon off then go into your control panel and delete off norton there. as well

Type in www.avg.com and download that if that does not work try others as below.

keep on trying avg.co.uk it is free and it is very good - I used to use norton myself.
