Re Intermittent problem

Ended up reformatting :0(
All seems to be working now but Windoze Vista is taking up even more space than before, even after running the clean up tool.

You should have SP1 and SP2 installed plus all of the other updates of which there quite a few. Both service packs take up a lot of space because they have 2 sets files one is the update file and the other identical is the installation one which is needed to restore your files should you uninstall the service pack . Thats possibly why you have noticed the extra space taken up.

Also remembered that it said it would back up current files in "Windows.old" this turned out to be 28.3 GB! Have moved this to my external drive and regained about half the partition.
