Everytime I close Outlook Express I get a box asking if I want to compress contents to save disc space. I've unchecked the box for this in Advanced Attributes in Properties but it still pops up every time. A small thing, but irritating. How do I stop it?

Just do it .. It hardly ever pops up.
Certainly not every time.
(and the properties advanced attributes are nothing to do with the program operation .. which is what's happening)

Thanks AlBags - the voice of reason as always!
I have my moments : )
It comes up after exactly 100 times you start Outlook Express and then every time after that count. You can reset the counter by amending a registry entry but this is really for the experts.
As others advise there is no harm in running the compact process. Just be aware that it needs as much disc space as the size of all your mailboxes added together. At the end of the compact your original mailboxes will be in the Recycle Bin (and therefore still using disc space). The new mailboxes will usually be smaller and faster because is closes the gaps between items you have deleted.
