Why does my Dads Windows XP desktop keep turning sideways to 90 (or 270) degrees, I have worked out how to put it back, but why does it happen?.

You would have to turn the monitor onto it's side to see desktop, Ie the status bar goes from top to bottom on left side of screen, the picture has sky from top to bottom, it's very weird to explain what happens.
Well, if you've worked out how to put it back, presumably you just have to reverse the steps to work out how it gets like it!

My nVidia video adaptors allow me to rotate the display by right-clicking the tray icon and choosing [monitor]/rotation settings. Other devices (such as ATI cards) might allow you to specify hot-keys to do the same job.
Because he keeps pressing CTRL+ALT+ one of the arrow keys. CTRL+ALT+up key will put it back to normal.

One of the most stupid developments ever by Microsoft. It has no use and causes problems such as your Dad's.
Nothing whatsoever to do with Microsoft, but with the software that goes with the video adaptor.

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Arrow has no effect on my machine whatsoever.
Like rojash, it is the card software. It is a very usefull function when needed. Mrs.W's computer is often used for writing and has a LCD widescreen that can be rotated 90. This gives a fullpage overview of text documents without scrolling too much.
Screen rotation ability is also used when monitors are used sideways for advertising on Mall posts, and indeed where monitors are hung upside down from ceilings.
Does one of his knees keep going up higher?

Thanks everyone (especially Squarebear) I will try the Ctrl/Alt/up key next time it happens, it would be easier than Graphic set up/Graphic properties/rotation etc.
My dads 79 and is not that good on the Puta, so a simple solution is great.
